Tbilisi State Medical University was founded as a Faculty of Medicine at the Tbilisi State University in 1918. The medical faculty became an independent institution in 1930, received the full-fledged university status in 1992 (renamed to ‘Tbilisi State Medical Institute’), and was integrated into the Tbilisi State Medical Academy in 2006. It has been more than 100 years since the institution began collaborating with different universities and research centres.
Today, TSMU Georgia operates over 6 faculties, offering 31 educational programmes, and hosts more than 9,400 students, consisting of over 3,400 international students from 84 countries. The institution has also received a full accreditation from the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (NCEQE) in 2024, checking all its seven standards.
